A quiet advantage

If you have been following baseball the past few weeks, you know that MLB has some terrible managers.  For example, Donnie Baseball called for consecutive sacrifice bunts.  That is right, Mattingly gave his team two outs in an inning.  If you don't follow baseball, there is only three outs in an inning.

While there is much screaming to the hilltops about poor managerial decisions, it is worth noting that Joe Maddon isn't the only savvy manager in MLB.

Team Contact

Listening to Dave Cameron on the Fangraph podcast, he explains that contact % (fair or foul contact per swing) is a fairly accurate early season stat. What are the contact percentages for ttfc?

 Introducing team contact:

Michael Brantley 93.7% (2nd in MLB behind Ichiro)
Asdrubal Cabrera 88.2%
Casey Kotchman 87.1%
Jason Kipnis 85.8%

The interesting player on the team contact list is Kotchman. Add his contact numbers with his .159 BABIP, and you see reason to believe that he will improve.

Are we there yet?

Again Chief Wahoo should go.
